I made my fabric/floss decision!

Here's what I'm using. DMC 839, 3863, and 224 on Lambswool Linen. I have both 32ct and 28ct in my stash and I'm considering using the 28. I just need to see if I have a piece big enough. The photo is on 32ct, but they look exactly the same.

I stood in the aisle of Joann's for what felt like forever looking at "pinks." I had a color picked out but when I started playing around with it next to the browns and on the fabric, it was just too pink. I wanted something that would blend better. Funny how a large skein looks much different than the little bit shown in the DMC fiber book! LOL

I probably won't mess with measuring and cutting fabric until mid-March. I'm sort of behind in where I wanted to be stitching-wise for February and need to concentrate on that for awhile, but I'm really looking forward to starting now that I have decided on what I wanted.

Fabric and floss update

I stitched a few 'test' pieces last night. The top one, which I gave up on as it 'disappeared' into the fabric, is Vicki Clayton's OMG Red (one strand) on the flax 36ct. The other fabric is 32ct lambswool and the 'snowflake' on the left is the OMG Red, one strand. The one on the right is two strands part in OMG Red and part in Imperialosity which gave much better coverage on 32ct.  I am going to do another test piece on some 36ct antique white from my stash with the Imperialosity and also order some 35ct lambswool.

Now I have fabric and floss!

My spools of silk threads arrived from Vicki Clayton this morning. Aren't they just gorgeous colours? From top to bottom OMG red, Mermaid Blue and Imperialosity and the two linen fabrics are 32ct natural brown and 36ct flax. I think I will be using the flax but I am still undecided as to which of the silks to use and think I might just throw all three into a bag and pick one out!

Fabric/Fiber Choice

I still need to stitch up a sample to be certain, but I'm pretty sure this is what I'm going to use to Hannah. It's fabric and fibers I already had in my stash, so that's a bonus! I took it down to Terri's on Saturday to let her see it and she thought it looked really good together, too.

The fabric is 36-count Tundra by Lakeside Linens. The fiber is Snoqualmie Falls from the now defunct Needle Necessities. They look really nice in the floss toss, almost as if they were meant to be together. Hopefully they'll look equally good when I stitch up a test piece.

Fabric arrived!

My Edinburgh flax, in both 36 and 40ct, arrived this morning.  I won't decide which to use until my silks arrive from Vicki Clayton but the 40ct looks really fine.  I haven't worked on 40ct in a long time - are they making it smaller or ... maybe I need new prescription lenses!! lol   I think I will do a small test piece before I jump straight in - I could always do a Quaker scissor fob so my scissors will match my project.

Thread Choice Made and Ordered!

Well, I decided on my threads.

I order 10 skiens (overkill I'm sure - but on the safe side) of Vikki's Examplar Moon-Called Sea (Melissa linked it below).

Now to figure out the fabric. I'll be going at least 36-count and frankly, I have never stitched smaller than 32, so I don't even think I have any fabric to choose from. I'll dig tomorrow to figure that out!

Some history and my fiber choices.

Every time I look at someone's progress I wonder who Sarah and Jane were so today I pulled my pattern out and read it. Amazing the amount of information one can come by by reading! Sarah was Hannah's sister and it is through her that we have the sampler. There is no mention of a Jane.

I've decided to go with DMC instead of a silk. I even gave GAST a thought, but don't have enough in my stash and I really want to pull as much from my stash and I can to do this. I have several natural hand-dyed fabrics to choose from and plan on doing a floss toss this weekend, perhaps while Melissa is visiting. I really want to go a brown and pink route, maybe a burgandy brown? We'll see.

Recommended Fibers

For a bit more inspiration, here is a photo of a completed Hannah Beeby stitched by Margaret with the recommended fibers. It is stitched on 40-count Maple Sugar linen from Lakeside Linens.

Can you all tell I'm bored at work today with all the posting?

Fiber Requirements & Inspiration

I was exchanging emails with Terri and we were discussing how much fiber would be needed for this sampler. I saw the following information posted on the forums at Vikki Clayton's website, so I thought it would share it here, too.

""Regarding floss amount for Hannah Beeby, CatherineABC said she used about 24 yards of Inky Depths, stitching 1 strand over 2 on 36ct fabric.""

For some inspiration, here's a picture of the aforementioned sampler by CatherineABC. Just click on the thumbnail for a larger view.

Here is another completed Hannah Beeby. This was was stitched by Rosie on 40-count R&R Light Cappuccino fabric using Creme de Menthe Belle Soie silk. The gorgeous framing was done by Jill Rensel.

I did place the chart order for me and Darla yesterday. Hopefully they'll get here soon.

I'm In!

Melissa's ordering the charts for both of us. Then it's a matter of deciding on fabric count, fabric color, and floss color/s. And, of course, silk or cotton!

Hi...I'm in too!

Hello all, Julie from Minnesota here. I have not yet received my chart, but it is ordered. I am thinking of a subtle coffee dyed antique white Belfast and maybe Elizabethan Green by Gloriana silks. But I still have to check out what's new in Vikki's world. :-)

Can't wait to start.

Blessings,
Julie

I'm in!

When I was at the LNS on Sunday (Super Bowl Sale) I ordered Hannah Beeby. I was waiting to check out and I spotted an order card on the work table. Someone else had requested it so I told her to get two LOL.

Right now I'm thinking DMC 500 on white belfast - simple and elegant.

Fibers

Welcome aboard, Carol!

Tracy and I were looking at options on Vikki's site last night when we were on the phone together. I found a few that I really love, so I'm torn over whether I want to use them or to go with my new favorite silks, Belle Soie by Sharon Crescent. I suppose a lot of it will depend upon which fabric I use.

Here are the colors that really appealed to me from Vikki's site. This is in order of preference without any thought of fabric color thus far. All of the colors except one included a motif sample stitched with the fiber. I've included those as well.

Examplar Moon-Called Sea - LOVE LOVE LOVE this one!!

Motif Sample

Examplar Wattle 'n Daub

Motif Sample

Examplar Kindling

Examplar Fire Thorn

Motif sample

Fire Dragon Redux

Motif Sample

While I really LOVE the colors of the last two, especially Examplar Fire Thorn, the colors really don't go with my decor. I really find myself most drawn to Moon-Called Sea and Fire Thorn though.

I need to go through my fabrics and look at my options. I've been in a Lakeside Linen FOTM for the past year, so I have several gorgeous fat quarter options in 36- and 40-count. Any of them should work for this project. I ordered a skein of each of the colors above so I can do a floss toss on my fabrics to see if any of them will work with the fabrics I have. I really want to use a fabric from my stash for this project.

Hello

Just to say hello to Melissa and Tracy!  I am already in touch with Terri.

My chart is here - really fast shipping from Canada to the UK.  Fabric and floss on order but as I have not made up my mind I have ordered both 36 and 40 count in flax and not one but three colours of Vicki Clayton's silk threads - Mermaid Blue, OMG Red and Imperialosity (green) and will decide once they arrive.

I am really looking forward to this SAL and seeing pictures of your pieces too.

I'm in!

Hi! I'm in - now I need to order my stuff! Hehehe! Which means I need to decide fabric and color!

ETA - Just ordered the chart! So that's a start!

Greetings!

I'm here! I haven't even remotely thought about fabric or fiber choices yet! I still need to order the chart. I guess that goes on my To Do list for this week.

And so we begin

7 weeks from today, March 24, we will begin to stitch along on Hannah Beeby. Please feel free to share what fabric and fibers you're agonizing over. As of this writing I haven't even begun to decide!

Anyone can join in. As long as there are two people who want to stitch on this beautiful design, this blog will stay around.

If you're interested, please leave a comment with email info so an invite can be sent to you.
